RP Characters ~ MassiveCraft Blog Post

So you log onto MassiveCraft for the first time. You take a look around, you like the world, the lore you find, the RP atmosphere, the people. Now, if you’re an RPer the next big question is, what character should I play? Here on Character Roulette we’re going to take a look at the different kinds of characters you can play as, what kinds of races would be good for that and of course, help you out with some tips on RPing.

Now, I’ve been around the block a bit as an RPer. Being on MassiveCraft for over 2 years, I’ve had a lot of different experiences but I am by no means an expert. Nor have I experienced every single opportunity open to an RPer on Massive. Yet I know a lot and I’m to talk right now about the different races. Now, right now there is only one main, central RP hub, that being Regalia however at the end I’ll mention an upcoming addition to the RP space. However, let’s stick with Regalia and begin with the races.

Time for class students...
In Regalia, there are different classes, first, second and third class. Now, it’s not a measure of wealth, rather a measure of rights within the city. Due to a recent law, now all “Humanum” which means all Human and Elvish subraces along with Dwarves are considered on equal footing. Beneath them are all other races, from the furred Urs, Thylan and Tigran to the green-skinned Orcs. Playing as Humanum races is honestly, probably a more secure experience, you are the majority, you have a lot more rights and privileges than other races and it allows for a lot of RP experiences, However, I would urge people to at least at some point in their MassiveCraft journey try out the less played or popular races. For a long time, I didn’t play as any of the races now considered “Humanum”, sticking with my good old Slizzar character and enjoying his strangeness. Eventually, I took a few steps into the more human side of things and so currently have two human characters, a female Ailor, and a female Chi’ien Ji. However, besides my lovely Lana, there is also Farod, my Ailor-Orc halfling. I can also honestly say that playing as him is very interesting as halflings like him are considered abominations by a lot of people. He’s gotten some interesting experiences out of it to say the least so I do urge you to RP more than just Humanum.

Money, money, money…
There are also different classes of wealth in Regalia. Most of the time, it’s not race specific but more tied to the character you decide to play. However, a few cautionary warnings about this. Don’t RP as a rich person when you first start out unless you have a good reason as to how they’re rich and successful in life. Now, in terms of actual IG mechanical wealth, the Regals that you own do not have to reflect your character’s wealth. Also, there aren’t really many IRP opportunities to earn Regals in cold hard coinage to your account so do not think that by RPing as a rich person, you’ll be granted IG regals. Even if you found an IG business, it’ll be hard to earn IG Regals, unless your idea is wildly popular and useful to the people of Massive.

Very very busy and we have a lot to do…
Your character’s job is also incredibly important to successful and useful RP. Are they a simple poor weaver, helping to make others clothing? Are they a successful ship captain, hiring themselves out to transport goods for major companies? Are they a noble, wealthy on taxes and their land’s products? Your role in Alorian society can be many different things, all, however, must have existed at the time of Medieval Europe. Try to join the staff of another business, to learn the ropes, make connects as your character and join a community. Some jobs or positions, though, you will need to apply to such as a job in the Violet Order (Regalia’s city guard) or into nobility. If you do want to try for nobility, RP well and for an extended period of time before you revisit the opportunity. This privilege is for those who are dedicated, who are good at RP and pillars of the community in terms of friendliness and what they can bring to the table. Don’t let that intimidate you, though, nobility was some of the best fun I’ve ever had in terms of RP and even if that doesn’t interest you, there is still a lot out there in terms of jobs.

Pirate’s, er I mean, privateers life for me!
Now, I mentioned that there was a new RP center coming out soon to Massive. This is going to be Silverwind, a privateering haven for all ye pirating scum out there! In terms of IG, way back when, Silverwind was a portal hub, where you took boats to the other worlds from the main one. However, it was cut out when portals and the server improved, the explanation being that the small colony’s administration attempted to double-cross the Regalian Empire for their arch-enemy the Qadiriyye. Suffice to say, when Regalia learned about this, they bombarded the whole island reducing it to ruin however nowadays, brigands and pirates, often hired by Regalia to attack the Qadir live here so this should be a very interesting space indeed, where pirates and scallywags muck about in their own little world with probably some other craftsmen tagging along to help out and others there for other nefarious purposes…

This is the end
This has been the end of my introduction to RP Characters in MassiveCraft everyone! There are all kinds of RPers out there, all looking for different kinds of meanings and experiences to take and learn from throughout our little world here. Big or small, tall or short, furred or scaled, mean or kind, we have everything in between and more here on Massive. To learn some more about RP changes and additions on the server, click HERE to go to the RP blog on the website! Hope you pop on by to check it out, but until next time, have a Massive day!

Regalia ~ MassiveCraft Blog Post

Regalia. If you know your english words, it means clothing to you maybe or conjures up all those bigwigs who use it to describe the glorious outfits of ancient monarchs from years past. Yet for a few hundred people, it instantly brings to mind the RPing hub of the Minecraft server MassiveCraft. The city, which sits on a large island, has changed a lot over the years. Here, I will discuss its history as a location IG, in the lore and what it has for those wishing to explore it.

City's History
First up, is the city in terms as a physical build in the world. Now keep in mind, I’ve been on the server for over two years and my memory might be terrible. Let’s continue on though. In the beginning, Regalia was small, with not that much to it. It had a cathedral, houses, a sort of library building and several other things and that was all. Back then, Silveredge, the capital of the old world called Ceardia was the hub for RP. However, when Regalia got upgraded, expanded and lore became finalized, making it the heart of the Regalian Empire, Silveredge became less used and Ceardia itself was soon after deleted. For several months, Regalia continued to expand with the addition of a Noble District and probably several other areas I never got to visit before revisions were made on the city, eliminating while adding a lot of new stuff. This happened a lot, as world staff played around with streets, structures, additions etc. until it was announced back in February of 2015 that Regalia V2 was nearly upon us! This newest version of Regalia was rather large to start with, with all sorts of niches and such for people to RP in. It also added the Sewers, a place for criminals and the persecuted to hide in, and since it’s release, has certainly evolved into a wonderful, rich, and unique city.

Makeup of the City
For those willing to explore every inch of this city, there is certainly a lot. To start off, there is the Golden Willow Tavern, which sits at the center of the main laneway of the city. From there, allow me to explain the different districts. The “Poor District” is of course, often occupied by the poor and non-humans, though this is not always the case. Close to the “Elven Slums”, an area being added in right now and on the water, it is quaint and the perfect place to find affordable housing in Regalia if you can get ahold of one of these hotly sought after homes. From there, we have the “Park”, which is...well, a park, bordered by houses with a waterfall and lake. Up further a bit, you can find what I think is unofficially known as the “Estates District” where grand estates, often belonging to nobles or the rich, sit at the edges of a large field with a few paths crossing through it. From there, you can meander into the winding and older “Old Gods District”, which contains the slowly crumbling ruins of the Old God’s Temple and is a fairly calm space. Looping around, you can make your way through the streets with their many houses to get yourself over to the “Burned District”, a site being rebuilt after IRP a massive fire started. Then, at last, we reach the “Ithanian District” with upscale homes and bright colours! Now, there is just, SO much more I could discuss like the small niches where vagabonds can sleep, where creatures lurk and leave as you arrive and other such place but I don’t feel like spoiling it all for you. So log on and explore the city yourself!

Lore
But no city is complete without it’s lore as so, here is IRP history of Regalia! The island Regalia is built on is actually stepped deep down with ancient ruins going back to the first civilization, the Seraph followed by an inheritor race culture called the Meriac, with the elves building a city on top of those ruins and the Ailor building their own capital overtop of the elven ruins, converting them into sewers. Before this time though, the Ailor were ruled by a King who was deposed soon after the Elven Empire collapsed. Taking elven technology, the Ailor of the Regalian Archipelago, formed the basis for the most powerful naval empire in Aloria. Over time, the city grew and expanded and remained the seat of the Emperor as more and more states were brought under the control of the Regalian Empire. More recently, in a war with their arch-enemy, the Qadiriyye, Regalia was lost to enemy forces who occupied it and the Archipelago for several weeks before a deal was arranged to let the enemy leave the city. However, during their occupation, they sacked it and caused a huge fire that burned a whole district to the ground. Now, that district is being rebuild and some have started to delve deep under the city, deeper than ever before…

This city is an amazing location to RP in and for all you builder out there, a great place to explore and experience. If you want to take a look at the city and all the other worlds in Massivecraft, go to our maps, which give a dynmap overview of each world. For now though, until next time, I’ll see all you readers later!

Opportunity ~ MassiveCraft Blog Post

Now before you go on reading through this I would advise everyone to take at least a peek at MassiveCraft’s website and look around a bit. Now, if you didn’t do that, the basics are that it is a Minecraft PVP (Player versus Player)/Factions/RP (Roleplaying) Server that had been around for a good while, albeit under different names in the very beginning. Today, I’m going to talk to you about the opportunities you can have on this amazing server. Not going to lie here, this was done for a competition on the server’s forums but the more I thought about it, the more I believe that doing a blog about stuff I like and things others should try out would be a good outlet for me (and my urges to rant to kingdom come about stuff like this to random people). So, let us begin discussing opportunity!

In the Beginning...
Now, when you first join Massive, it may seem rather daunting and difficult. However, one of the easiest ways to start out is join a good faction. MassiveCraft has always held the factions plugin on the server close to it’s heart as it’s original creator, Cayorion (the almighty lord of data and infinite complexities within the multiverse of MassiveCraft), is the server’s owner. So factions are a good place to begin your journey onto the server and can offer up a variety of opportunities. Often times, it is the ability to form friendships and bonds with people in such factions over perhaps your love of books, movies, Minecraft, but the variety of people on the server is just endless and so are what they might enjoy. There are other opportunities as well, such as helping to build great structures in your lands and also, to learn more about the server in a slow and gradual manner. Because there is a lot to learn if you want to fully understand the MassiveCraft charm that has had it’s claws in me for over two years!

Factions
Now, there are different kinds of factions. Some faction are more roleplay based, and try their hardest to adhere to the lore set out by the server (more about this at the end) and foster often times a calm atmosphere. Others are PVP factions, build on combat with other players and might often have lulls and frantic periods. Others still try to combine the two together in unique ways, into PVP and RPing groups within the main faction to cater to the two groups that so love to play the game. Another option, though a bit of challenge for newcomers, is to start your own faction for 100 Regals (the In-Game currency) and do what you wish in the area selected. This however, is last on the list for a reason as alone, you wouldn’t have the same opportunities as being in a group with others and receiving the full support of the community. So, these are the opportunities factions can provide for you yet while this was very quick, it’s mostly because I myself haven’t really done factions related things in nearly a year. I’m far, far more into what we’re going to talk about next, roleplaying!

Roleplay
Where to begin with roleplaying opportunities...there are just so many to discuss. The server’s lore and world provide plenty of options for people to explore and learn about but I’ll try to briefly go over it all. There are different races, such as the dominant, xenophobic Ailor Humans, to the aquatic, simplistic Maiar, to the furred and aggressive Ur. There are of course more, but those are maybe for a later time. Suffice it to say that each can provide their own interesting experiences, whether it be encountering a race your character hates or another of your own kind or something entirely different. Then there is the setting. The lands of Aloria are huge places yet the main RP hub is the medieval city and island of Regalia, capital of the Ailor Regalian Empire. The setting allows for interesting RP scenarios as well as just the ability to explore a very well made, deep city and find RP across its sprawling and interesting areas. Then, there are the jobs and positions your character can occupy. Some you need to apply to or prove you are a capable RPer to the server’s staff, such as for hidden magics that are rare to find and to own lands in the Empire as nobility. Others you can create for yourself, like becoming a business owner or apply for a job at business already up in the city. There are others of course yet these are just some general points to get you started!

Experimental Things
Now here, I’m just talk a short time about the opportunities coming down the pipeline or that are fresh to the scene. On the server’s forums, found here, there is a lot of things to explore, which I may cover in another post but mainly, there is the new and finalized “Player Quest System”. Essentially a miniature Dungeons and Dragons event where up to five RP characters can engage in a unique quest to explore or steal from locations. These are good for those wishing to gain unique experiences for their characters and to perhaps, learn about hidden lore, things only staff members know and your  character’s can find. Also of course, there are treasures and just plain combat experience to add onto your characters. A revision recently in the way the nobility works now allows for there to be female heads of families, thus perhaps ushering new and interesting strong female characters onto the RP scene. Another new option coming soon is the ability to have a RP compliant and accepted faction. I spoke to this earlier but ho it’s currently been discussed, factions will be able to apply to be towns or cities or miniature states loyal to other, larger lore compliant states nearby. It’s very vague right now, but sounds fascinating as such a thing the community has wished for for a good while yet now is finally happening.

In conclusion…
This server has so much opportunity for those who wish to explore it down to it’s core. I myself have explored RPing factions, nobility, jobs, and crime RP and it has been a blast. I won’t lie, sometimes I wanted to pull my hair out or stop shaking out of fear for my characters, but it’s been such a great time. I’ve also met some of the most fabulous people, with a few I can even call some of the greatest friends I could ask for. When you’re old and grey, you’ll look back and go “I still can’t believe computers were like that…all 2-D and such...” though I also hope you’ll remember all the opportunity you found on Massivecraft.

Welcome to all!

Hello to all those who come on by, my name is...unimportant, but I am mostly known as Shadow to my friends. I’m not goth or anything, my minecraft username is the much longer The_Shadow_King3 and saying that is just silly. Anyway, welcome to my blog! I’m not going to lie here, I started this to get into a contest that I’ll shortly be discussing. As I thought more on it though, I grew to greatly enjoy the idea of a place to openly ramble and open myself somewhere where I doubt ANYONE from IRL can find it! Just kidding, but seriously, not really. Anyway, below I’ll just give a quick list of what I’ll probably be talking about though I may go off on a rant about something totally different.

  1. MassiveCraft: A Minecraft RP/PVP Factions server I’ve seen on for over two years
  2. Star Wars: Do NOT get me talking about Star Wars, will probably discuss SW: Rebels, the new films and other media from this amazing universe
  3. Destiny: Such a controversial game, but I love it. A lot. So I’ll talk about it.
  4. Artists: Most probably from deviantart and maybe my own works if I make any.
  5. Creative stuff I work on: No spoilers so shhhh...

I hope every enjoys and the first few posts I'll be making will be to Massive though maybe I'll throw a Star Wars one in there...dunno, I'll see how I feel. I'll catch you all later!
